This past weekend wrapped up my final set of classes for the Master of Science in Marketing Program at Florida International University. As happy as I am to finally get back to sleeping in on Saturdays and my farmers market runs, it truly is a bittersweet feeling.
The MSM program at FIU is unlike anything I have ever been a part of. And I’m not saying this because I drank the Kool-Aid, but because a year after starting, I am a totally different woman and professional than I started. Prior to the program, I felt as if I had everything to prove. That I was just a small fish in a big Miami pond that had to prove her skill every day just to get noticed. In a lot of ways, I am still that same person as I have that same drive and hunger to be successful, but I’m more confident in the areas I felt most deficient in, such as analytics.

Every single semester was a challenge. Whether it was the content itself, the management of multiple group projects, the certifications, or the clients that we worked on projects for. There was always a lesson at the end of it and it always sharpened my skill set. I even once had to create a go-to-market and product packaging design for a tea line within 8-weeks… let’s just say I didn’t get much sleep that semester. Not to mention, I can say that I am a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Google Ads, HubSpot Marketing, Hootsuite-certified marketer and further solidified my position as a unicorn marketer.
Besides the work portion, I was able to forge some truly amazing connections with all the individuals in my cohort. We had the most amazing chemistry with each other that enabled us to completely kill it when it came to our projects. Although we were competitive, we mostly just pushed each other to the fullest potential.
It definitely was a bit hard to juggle a full-time marketing role and an accelerated master’s degree program. But I will always look back and feel as if it was worth it. Not to mention, the program exposed me to becoming an instructor myself and I will return to the program to teach all the new cohorts how to build websites on WordPress.
I look forward to the next chapter in my life and the new changes that will be occurring as a result of the work I put into the FIU MSM program.
Please check back soon for a few big announcements that I will be making!
